According to an important product safety recall, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced the recall of Santa Cruz and Juliana Bicycles due to a defective aluminum frame that may buckle, causing a fall accident leading to injury or death. The model year of the recalled bicycles is 2020. The recall affects over 2,900 bicycles. Approximately 215 of the recalled bikes were sold in Canada.
The recall report states that these bicycles have defective aluminum frame pieces that could have experienced thermal damage during the manufacturing process. The frame may bend or buckle, leading to a serious accident.
The recall only involves models manufactured in 2020. The bicycles involved in the recall include Santa Cruz models:
The Juliana models included in the recall are:
The brand name “Santa Cruz” or “Juliana” is found on the bicycle’s downtube. The model names are placed on the rear and front triangles. The only bikes recalled are the bicycles that have six small indents “above the first letter of the serial number.” The serial number can be found on the shell on the bottom bracket.
Consumers are directed to stop using the recalled bicycles and contact Santa Cruz Bicycles to set up a free inspection. Customers with the defective frames have the choice of receiving a free replacement aluminum frame or a refund voucher made out for the amount of money to replace the recalled frame.
Santa Cruz bicycles stated that they had received four reports of bending or buckling. The recalled bikes had been sold from June of 2019 until October of 2020.
