CROWN HEIGHTS, BROOKLYN, NY – According to abc7ny.com, a woman was tragically killed, and a man was severely injured when the pedestrians were hit by a car while waiting for a bus. Law enforcement officers reported that street racing was the cause of the fatal pedestrian accident. The deadly collision occurred in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, New York.
Accident scene investigators reported that three motor vehicles were street racing along Utica Avenue, which has a posted speed limit of 25 MPH. According to the accident report, a Dodge Charger hopped over a curb and collided with the two victims as they waited for a bus.
One shocked accident eyewitness said the collision could have involved their children or their mother. The witness stated that he observed the victim take her last breath as he ran over to assist the victim.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, tragically passed away at the scene of the accident. The injured man, a 21-year-old man, was transported to a local area hospital, where he is listed in stable medical condition.
The Dodge Charger’s driver hopped out of the Dodge and got into another motor vehicle, and fled the accident scene. The suspect remains on the run from law enforcement.
According to community activists, the portion of Utica Avenue by Eastern Parkway where the crash occurred is often used for illegal street racing. The area does not receive a lot of traffic and has become popular for street racing. The accident is currently under investigation, and police have not made an arrest at this time.
