
Head on collision with an MTA bus
BRONX, NY – August 18, 2020 – According to an article posted on norwoodnews.org, law enforcement is investigating a severe head-on collision the occurred between a van and a public bus at Jerome Avenue and Mosholu Parkway in the Bedford Park neighborhood of The Bronx.
Police allege that a man from Bedford Park was arrested after he took a van and then crashed into an MTA bus while trying to flee. The suspect has been caught and was placed under arrest. The suspect faces several charges, including auto theft criminal charges. The accident resulted in at least one injury. The MTA bus driver was reported as suffering from personal injuries as a result of the accident.
According to Annette Shelton, detective and police spokeswoman, the accident occurred at approximately 7:40 am when a Dodge Van was taken from a parking spot located at 2706 Valentine Avenue, between East 196th Street and East 194th Street in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx. The spokeswoman stated in an email that the suspect crashed the van into an MTA bus at the corner of Jerome Avenue and Mosholu Parkway. The 38-year-old male bus driver reported that the suspect left the scene of the accident. The suspect left the scene and headed southbound along Jerome Avenue.
A witness, who did not witness the accident, stated that he heard a loud collision and he went to the accident scene. The witness stated that he took a photo of the accident scene, and he claims that he saw the man crash into the bus and then ran away from the accident scene. The witness stated that two men jumped out of the van and ran from the accident scene in different directions. According to the witness, the bus driver appeared seriously injured. The witness stated that the passengers seemed to be fine, but could not verify if the bus passengers were injured or not. The witness attempted to follow the driver and try to alert police to the suspect, but there were no officers in the area at that time.
According to the EMS, the bus driver was transported to Jacobi Hospital for treatment of his personal injuries.
Police reported that the driver was found and arrested. The 30-year-old man was charged with grand larceny, leaving the scene of an accident, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and criminal possession of stolen property.
The condition of the bus driver is unknown at this time.
