Four Injured In A School Bus And truck Crash. Four people were injured following an accident involving a school bus and a truck in Queens. New York Daily News reports that the school bus, which was filled with children, was struck by a Penske box truck which struck a Queens’ fruit market.
The accident occurred on Hillside Ave. near Hollis Court Blvd, in Jamaica Estates. The truck had been traveling southbound on Clearview Expressway.
A 34-year-old woman and three other pedestrians were struck by the out-of-control truck, which had jumped the curb before ultimately hitting a sidewalk product stand. According to New York Daily News, witnesses said the crash caused the awning to collapse; fruits and vegetables flew everywhere.
School Bus Was Carrying 23 Children
The bus was carrying 23 children. NY Daily News reports that they were being evaluated. The accident is being investigated by the police and as of evening on April 17th, no arrests were made or summons issued.
The four injured people were taken to Jamaica Hospital and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Officials said the injuries were serious, but non-life threatening. Doctors at Jamaica Hospital were able to stabilize a critical injury in the first woman who was hit.
Sadly, motor vehicle accidents are not uncommon in the New York metro area. Last month, a car smashed into the wall of a church in Baldwin, Nassau County. CBS New York reported that the 21-year old driver fled the scene and ultimately turned himself in.
He was charged with leaving the scene of an incident and operating a vehicle without a proper license. In February, eight people were injured in a three-vehicle crash involving a pickup track and a Suffolk County Transit bus in Medford.
