Drunk driving
GREENBURGH, NY – According to Patch.com, a woman is facing charges for driving while intoxicated following an accident that took place in. The crash occurred at about 12:45 a.m. when the driver hit a construction vehicle on the state Thruway.
The driver was identified as 56-year-old Ms. Doolittle of Rockville Centre. Police report that blood tests conducted at the Tarrytown barracks indicated that Doolittle had a blood alcohol content that was exactly three times the legal limit.
Doolittle is facing charges for “aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and multiple vehicle and traffic violations.”
Drunk driving is becoming less common on the roads, but there are still a shocking number of drivers who decide to get behind the wheel after drinking too much. Drunk drivers still cause about 28 percent of all traffic-related deaths in the United States. In total, 10,497 people were killed in crashes involving drunk drivers. Many of the drivers who are found to be drunk when they cause fatal traffic crashes are repeat offenders with prior histories of driving under the influence.
Over one million people were arrested in 2016 for driving while drunk or under the influence of drugs. The number of people who were arrested was only one percent of the people who self-reported events in which they were driving under the influence at some point during the year.
While alcohol is the drug that is still involved in most crashes, marijuana is also a common drug involved in car accidents. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), people who are under the influence of marijuana are about 25 percent more likely to get into a car accident than people who are not under the influence of drugs.
