According to a news report posted on ourcommunitynow.com, the Ford Motor Company is recalling 375,000 Ford Explorers due to a suspension defect that has already caused 13 accidents with six injuries associated with a possible defect. The safety recall affects model years 2013 to 2017. The Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) has an issue with the truck’s rear suspension that may cause a serious accident. The news report states that at least six people have been injured in 13 reported accidents connected to the rear suspension defect. The Ford Explorer recall affects over 375,000 SUVs manufactured at the Chicago plant. The recall also only affects SUVs sold in the United States and Canada. The SUVs, subject to the recall, need to be brought to the closest Ford dealership, inspected by Ford mechanics, and if necessary, the SUV will be repaired by the local Ford dealership at no cost to the owner.
The Ford Explorer recall is associated with corrosion that might develop if the SUV is exposed to wet weather. The SUVs may build up corrosion along the outboard section of the suspension toe link. The corrosion can cause the rear toe link to fracture, and this leads to a loss of steering control and may cause a serious accident. The Ford Motor Company will perform an inspection of the vehicle’s torque and cross-axis ball joint, and replace the parts if necessary.
The affected Ford Explorers were built at the Chicago assembly plant from September 4, 2012, until January 25, 2017. In addition, model years 2013 to 2017, might be impacted by the defect. To determine if your Ford Explorer is subject to the recall, visit owner.ford.com and then type in your vehicle identification number (VIN).
