WOODBURY, Long Island, N.Y. — A massive head-on crash in Woodbury, on Long Island, sent four people to the hospital, including a 77-year-old man who sustained life-threatening injuries. According to a report appearing in the Suffolk Daily Voice, the 77-year-old man was driving in a northeasterly direction on Woodbury Road in the vicinity of Piquets Lane in a 2019 Lexus sports utility vehicle when the vehicle collided head-on with a 2017 Toyota minivan which was going southwest, also on Woodbury Road. The man in the Lexus was driving by himself. The Toyota had two passengers in addition to the driver on board. The Nassau County Police noted that the incident transpired around 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
The massive head-on collision between the two large vehicles caused devastating injuries. The 77-year-old man driving the Lexus suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash. Emergency responders raced him to a local hospital for life-saving measures. The man was in critical condition in the hospital. No update on his physical condition has been provided.
The three occupants of the 2017 Toyota minivan also sustained severe injuries. The Nassau County Police accident investigators did not disclose the precise nature of their injuries except to say that the injuries were traumatic. The 27-year-old driver of the Toyota minivan and her passengers, aged 56 and 65 respectively, were sent to a hospital for emergency treatment as well. They are expected to survive.
Nassau Police accident investigators towed both of the vehicles involved in the crash away from the scene to perform safety examinations. Police have not cited either driver for the crash. The investigators say they will need some time to finish their inquiry, which could account for the delay in issuing a traffic summons. Investigators have not provided any indication as to which driver they believe could be at fault. It is unclear whether the cars turned into each other at the intersection or if one vehicle drifted into the other’s lane.
