Lyft Driver Killed in Queens Accident
QUEENS, NEW YORK – A news article posted on dhakatribune.com reports that a Bangladeshi-American ride-sharing driver for Lyft was tragically struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver in Queens last Sunday. According to the news report, the collision transpired at the intersection of Elliott Avenue and Fresh Pond Road in Maspeth. The report also states that the alleged drunk driver crashed into the Lyft driver.
According to local law enforcement authorities, the victim was identified as a 47-year-old Brooklyn man and father of three. The victim migrated from Bangladesh about twelve years ago. The friends and relatives of the victim visited the accident scene on Sunday morning and were trying to understand how the sudden loss of their beloved friend and family member occurred. The victim supported his family by driving for Lyft and Uber.
According to police, the alleged drunk driver, a 22-year-old man from Brooklyn, fled the accident scene and then later returned to the scene. According to the New York Police Department, the suspect was arrested and charged with DWI, vehicular manslaughter, driving without a license, and accident insurance.
One other person was injured in the accident and was transported to a local area hospital.
According to the police, the driver was driving drunk when the suspect drove through a red light and T-boned the victim’s vehicle. There is surveillance camera video showing the impact of the accident.
The victim was transported to Waikov Hospital, where the victim passed away.
