Man Killed Walking on William Floyd Pkwy
SHIRLEY, Long Island, New York — A man walking along William Floyd Parkway Wednesday in Shirley died after a car collided with him according to Patch.com. The collision between a vehicle and the man, which occurred about 8:15 p.m., forced police to close the William Floyd Parkway in both directions for a long period to conduct their investigation. According to an article appearing in the Shirley-Mastic Patch, the man who died was 25 years-of-age when he passed, and the man driving the vehicle that hit him was only 22-years-old. The 22-year-old driver was uninjured in the crash. Police have yet to make a determination whether they will issue charges against the operator.
The 25-year-old pedestrian, who was from Shirley, walked on the William Floyd Parkway’s Sunrise Highway overpass, when the vehicle, which the police did not describe, slammed into him. There was no indication of whether the pedestrian tried to cross the parkway or was walking along the parkway when he was hit.
First responders arrived at the pedestrian accident scene within minutes. Emergency Medical Service paramedics raced the badly injured man to Long Island Community Hospital located in East Patchogue. Unfortunately, physicians at the hospital could not preserve the man’s life. The doctors declared the man deceased after a short time at the hospital.
The 22-year-old motorist operated a 2018 Hyundai sedan at the time of the pedestrian accident. Detectives assigned to the Seventh Squad opened an investigation into the crash. As per department protocol, the detectives impounded the Hyundai involved in the crash, so they old perform a proper safety check. Also, the deceives are looking for people who have information about the crash to come forward and disclose that information to the police. The operator of the car did not sustain an injury in the crash. But, the crash was so significant that the police had to close both lanes of travel on the William Floyd Parkway to investigate.
