According to the CPSC, if children are left on the pillows or near the pillow, they can roll over, roll-off, or fall asleep in a position that is not safe. Parents are being warned not to allow their babies to sleep on nursing pillows or other similar products. Data linked 28 fatalities to nursing pillows so far.

It should be made clear to parents that the pillows are not intended to be used for infants to sleep on. Statistics indicate that close to 1,000 infants are killed every year because they suffocate in their sleep. The pillow warning is one of several sleep-related notices officials released following an investigation.
The CPSC did not specify any brand names in its report. Rather, the agency states that they are investigating all nursing pillow related products.
