Commuters Delayed on Hutchinson River Parkway

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY – According to Lohud.com, commuters were delayed as a result of several crashes. The southbound lanes of the Hutchinson River Parkway were closed following a rollover crash that involved several vehicles. The incident took place a little after 5 in the morning. The lanes were later reopened at about 7 in the morning.

Other collisions caused delays on Route 9, Interstate 684, and the Saw Mill River Parkway.

During rush hour there are many vehicles on the roadways leading to congestion and an increased risk of car accidents. When people are stuck in heavy traffic, they can become agitated and stressed out. Drivers who are under stress can drive aggressively, which is a risk factor for car accidents. Aggressive driving such as speeding, and tailgating is a cause of many car accidents. It is important for drivers stuck in long delays to remain calm and avoid letting their frustration impact their ability to operate their vehicles safely.

Another issue in rush hour traffic is that drivers get bored or tired. Drowsy driving is dangerous, and distracted driving is a major cause of vehicle collisions. Drivers who are bored may be tempted to look at their phones to read emails or send text messages. However, doing something like this while driving takes a person’s attention from the road and can lead to accidents.

When a car accident does take place, it can lead to heavy traffic because of lane blockages and emergency vehicles, but also because so many other drivers feel the need to look at the scene of the crash. Rubbernecking is another form of distracted driving though, and in addition to slowing traffic, turning around to look at the scene of an accident can be dangerous and can cause secondary crashes.
