According to a news article posted on ny1.com, a worker was tragically killed and another was severely injured after the two workers fell from the Manhattan Bridge. According to law enforcement, one worker was thought to be a painter, and the other victim is a construction worker. The two workers fell from the bridge and down onto the pavement at around two in the afternoon.
The report states that the painter was declared deceased at the accident scene. The NYPD reported that the construction work is expected to survive the incident. He is begin treated at Bellevue Hospital.
According to the New York Department of Transportation spokesperson Seth Stein, the “victim’s family and friends are in our thoughts.” Mr. Stein also stated that it was too early to determine what caused the fatal accident.
The New York Department of Transportation told NY1 reporters that the painter was employed by Champion Painting, which is a subcontractor of the Skanska construction company.
Law enforcement investigators are trying to ascertain what caused the fatal accident. The police briefly shut down all lower-traffic lanes along the Manhattan Bridge as they investigated the accident.
