Fatal bus accident
MANHATTAN, NY – According to Nydailynews.com, a fatal bus crash took place in lower Manhattan on Thursday, December 20, 2018. The victim, a 28-year-old woman, was killed in the accident.
The victim was transported to the NY Presbyterian-Downtown Hospital but was declared dead.
According to passengers and an employee, the bus was owned by Wanda Coach, although it was marked as “NYC Style Limo.” Passengers say that it was Wanda Coach that they purchased tickets from.
One passenger who was on the bus at the time of the bus accident said that he paid $40 to take the bus to Virginia. He said that he heard the bus hit something, and then later learned that it had struck a pedestrian.
The driver called 911, but he did not speak English, so he handed the phone to a woman who was a passenger on the bus, 51-year-old Demetrice Pringle. Pringle said that the driver was in a rush because the bus left late.
Another passenger, Urie Gomez, said that he thinks that buses are dangerous and is reconsidering his decision to take one.
The crash is being investigated.
Records indicate that the NYC Style Limo company is based in Massachusetts and that is has a license to operate between states. The company did not cause any crashes that led to deaths or injuries in the last two years.
The website for the buses states that there are several pickup locations in the city and that it runs routes from Albany to Atlanta.
Pedestrian crashes are less common in New York City because of Vision Zero, but the city has a long way to go before it meets its goal of zero-vehicle crash-related fatalities by 2024.
