Brooklyn law student dies

QUEENS, N.Y. — A law student from Brooklyn died in a motorcycle accident on Saturday, May 4, 2019, according to The New York Daily News. The student was reportedly on his way to study for a final exam he had upcoming. The initial investigation by the responding police officers suggests that the law student who was on his motorcycle on the Van Wyck Expressway in Ozone Park, Queens was hit by another vehicle and lost control. Police continue to investigate the matter. No charges were filed immediately subsequent to the accident.

The 26-year-old law student’s family members were at a loss for words after they received notification that the student did not survive the crash. The 26-year-old student rode a 2005 Aprilia motorcycle northerly on the Van Wyck Expressway at approximately 10:30 a.m. A person driving a 2014 Honda CRV who was switching lanes clipped the bike. The contact forced the law student to the side of the road.  The out-of-control motorcycle struck the curb. The collision with the curb ejected the law student from the motorcycle’s saddle.

First responders arrived to perform life-saving measures. They took the law student to Jamaica Hospital. Trauma doctors were not able to save the young man’s life.

A family member of the law student spoke with the media. She told the press that the St. John’s University Law School student was in his second year. He was heading to the school’s library to meet with his girlfriend and another student to prepare for final exams. The second-year law student resided with his parents and younger sister in the Fort Hamilton neighborhood of Brooklyn. The law student’s family member described her relative as a loving family member and a good young man.

The driver of the Honda Civic who was involved in the accident stayed at the scene of the crash. The police did not place anyone under arrest at that time. The case is under investigation by the NYPD.
