Brooklyn Teen Struck By Hit-and-Run-Driver

BROOKLYN, N.Y. — New York Police Department officers working in the Borough Park section of Brooklyn released a surveillance video showing a black Dodge Charger with Georgia plates strike a 14-year-old girl in a crosswalk and leave the scene. Fortunately, the 14-year-old pedestrian accident victim walked away from the crash without significant injuries. NYPD officers are still searching for the person driving the suspect car in the accident that happened around 4:00 p.m. according to CBS 2 New York. NYPD detectives continue to investigate the crash.

NYPD investigators pieced together recordings from several surveillance cameras on 47^thStreet in the Borough Park neighborhood to capture the collision between a black Dodge Charger and a 14-year-old girl. Investigators assembled different views and camera angles to create a movie-like feel of the girl getting hit. The video clearly shows the black Charger driving on 47^thStreet rapidly. The video shows the 14-year-old victim at the corner of 47^thStreet step onto the sidewalk while the Charger is far enough away to stop. Two other pedestrians step into the crosswalk as well just after the female accident victim. The video shows that no visual impediments would have prevented the driver from observing the people in the crosswalk. Additionally, the video depicts cars coming from left and right on the cross street.

The surveillance video is clear as to what happened when the car entered the crosswalk. The girl was walking in front of the car in the crosswalk near the Charger and had nowhere to go. She picked up a leg as the vehicle took her out at the knees. The impact threw her across the crosswalk and down onto the pavement. The driver of the car got out to check on the victim and then got back in the car and drove away. The driver appears to be a female. NYPD did not say if they have the license plate number of the vehicle that drove off. The victim escaped the crash with minor injuries.
