Coney Island Pedestrian Accident
CONEY ISLAND, NY – A news report posted on nydailynews.com states that a 73-year-old man is in critical medical condition after he was hit by a bread truck on Coney Island, New York. The victim had just purchased a pastry from a local bodega when critically injured in a pedestrian accident last Saturday.
The news article states that the victim had just walked away from the store on Mermaid Avenue by West 33rd Street when he was struck by a passing Sara Lee bread truck, law enforcement officials stated.
A 31-year-old witness stated that the accident happened quickly and that one moment the custom made a purchase and the next moment he was struck by a bread truck. The store employee witnessed the aftermath and stated that they walked outside and saw an ambulance. Workers at the mini-mart store stated that the accident victim visits the store once a week.
EMS raced to transport the pedestrian accident victim to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn. He remains at the hospital and is in critical medical condition. The news article did not know the victim’s identity.
The bread truck driver remained at the accident scene. No criminal charges were filed at this time as the investigation continues.
Another witness stated that Mermaid Avenue is very busy, and car accidents are common. She stated that the corner is very busy with buses, dollar cabs, pedestrians, and many cars are always turning, which makes it confusing to drivers.
