Long Island Pedestrian Deaths are Among the Highest in the United States

Pedestrian deaths are a problem for the entire country, but 3 congressional districts on Long Island have proven to be especially problematic. A recent report from the National Complete Streets Coalition revealed that these 3 congressional districts rank among the country’s top 100 congressional districts for pedestrian deaths resulting from collisions with vehicles. Two of the districts are in eastern Long Island while the third is in Nassau.

New York Intersections Are Among Deadliest in the United States for Pedestrians

According to a report released by the Governors Highway Safety Association, New York ranked number 1 for pedestrian deaths at intersections between 2014 and 2016. The total number of pedestrian deaths in New York between 2014 and 2016 was 879. Of this number, 294 pedestrian deaths were at intersections, which accounts for 33 percent of all pedestrian deaths in the state of New York. Nationally, the percentage of pedestrian deaths at intersections is 20 percent.

The report from the Governors Highway Safety Association also shows that New York is dangerous for elderly pedestrians. Between 2014 and 2016, New York had the highest death toll of elderly pedestrian victims, with 204 deaths out of a total 879 deaths state-wide.

Mom died as a result of nursing home negligence.The general consensus was that she was old and near death anyway...so,not worth much monetarily!!!The people at Parker Waichman felt otherwise.They handled the case and treated my sister and myself as though we were their ONLY clients.We were most fortunate to meet the AMAZING Cybele Louis and her team....Stephanie San Filippo and Cindy Custodio.They were sensitive to the needs of our family but also tough with our awful opponents!!!!
