According to an online news report published on ny1.com, NYPD officers reported that they arrested a 27-year-old man who they think caused a deadly hit-and-run accident. The pedestrian collision that occurred late Saturday night sadly killed a 33-year-old man who was attempting to cross the Bruckner Expressway.
The NYPD reported that the body of one victim was discovered on the westbound side of Bruckner Expressway. According to the news report, there may have been alcohol involved in the fatal accident.
The news report states that there were two additional fatal hit-and-run accidents in NYC last Saturday night.
NYPD officers stated that they discovered an abandoned motor vehicle that they believe caused the collision one mile from the accident scene. The NYPD stated that the suspect was taken into police custody when the driver returned to get the vehicle. The suspect is currently facing a criminal charge of driving without a license and another criminal charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
A resident who lives near the Bruckner Expressway in Soundview stated vehicles travel too fast for the area.
According to NYPD, this fatal pedestrian accident was the third fatal hit-and-run in 24 hours.

The third pedestrian accident occurred in Brooklyn when a 63-year-old man was hit and killed by an SUV as he tried to cross Atlantic Avenue by Nostrand Avenue in Bedford-Stuyvesant.
The NYPD stated that they were investigating all three fatal pedestrian collisions and reported the city is noticing a rise in the number of traffic fatalities. According to the NYPD, 94 pedestrians lost their lives this year so far as compared to only 75 pedestrian deaths in 2020.
