Queens, New York – A news report posted on streetsblog.org states that there were two fatal pedestrian accidents in the city over the weekend. The report states that two pedestrians were struck and killed by hit-and-run drivers in two separate incidents. According to the New York Police Department, the first fatal collision over the weekend occurred at approximately 8:15 PM on Saturday night. The news report states that a driver in a BMW X5 struck a 77-year-old pedestrian while she was crossing campus Road by the historic campus of Brooklyn College. According to NYPD, the BMW X5 was traveling south along Nostrand Avenue and collided with the pedestrian as the driver attempted to turn and onto Campus Road.
The pedestrian sustained serious bodily injury and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital. Tragically, the woman passed away due to her life-threatening injuries. The driver in the BMW X5 fled the pedestrian accident scene. The NYPD is currently investigating the fatal pedestrian accident.
The area of the accident is notorious for severe pedestrian accidents. In 2019 the area reported over 82 severe pedestrian accidents with injuries and one fatality.
The news report states that approximately four hours after the BMW and pedestrian accident, a 23-year-old man was struck while crossing Laurelton Parkway. In this case, the driver also fled the scene. The victim tragically passed away at the scene of the accident, and their name was not released to the public. The NYPD is searching for a gray Dodge charger in that case.
According to the NYPD, the total number of pedestrian accidents is up 71% over last year during the same time period. Throughout the city, there have been over 7,000 total accidents.
