FLATLANDS, NY- Brooklynpaper.com writes that an ambulance on its way to pick up a patient was involved in a crash at a Flatlands intersection. The impact led to the ambulance, striking a parked vehicle, and driving into a building.
The crash resulted in two emergency technicians sustaining injuries. Both of the technicians were treated at a local hospital. The crash took place on Flatbush Avenue in the early afternoon when the ambulance was traveling northbound. A red vehicle entered the ambulance’s path, causing the driver in the ambulance to lose control and collide with a Mercedes Benz SUV parked on the side of the road before striking the building.
The ambulance was severely damaged in the collision, and another ambulance arrived on the scene to transport the individuals who were injured in the crash.
The ambulance involved in the wreck was operated by a private company called Assist Ambulance. The company has been working to help the paramedics in the city who are handling the COVID-19 pandemic. At the time of the crash, the vehicle was traveling to pick up a sick individual.
The car that cut off the ambulance fled the scene of the collision. Police have not yet identified the vehicle or the driver who caused the incident. The investigation into the crash is still underway.
This accident is the second one this week in the city that involved an ambulance. Days before this crash, an ambulance and a police car were involved in a wreck that injured paramedics. The city is currently responding to a high volume of emergency calls because of the COVID-19 outbreak.
