Polaris Phenix 200 ATV Recall Issued After Crash Risks Identified

USA- NWGN writes that Polaris has issued a recall of 200 ATVs. Consumers who purchased the Polaris Phenix 200 ATVs are instructed to stop using them immediately. The problem appears to be that the throttle lever stop in some instances sustained damage in the shipping process. Due to the damage, the throttle may fail and can create a risk of crashes.

The company will repair the damaged products at no cost to the consumer. Dealers are being notified of the defect and should be contacting registered purchasers.

ATVs are known to be dangerous even when they are not defective. The Consumer Product Safety Commission writes that ATVs should never be treated as toys. These vehicles create the risk of severe and sometimes fatal collisions.

One point that the CPSC stresses is that riders should never operate an ATV on a paved roadway as this is considered extremely dangerous.

Adult ATVs are also meant for adults to ride, and should only be operated by individuals ages sixteen and up. Many ATVs are not intended to have passengers on them, and riding with someone as a passenger will put all occupants in harm’s way.

Anyone using an ATV should wear protective gear, including a helmet. It is also wise to take a course to learn how to safely operate these vehicles prior to riding.

In 2018, 264 people died in ATV crashes. That same year, 81,800 people were treated for injuries related to ATV crashes. More than one in five of the victims in these tragic incidents are individuals under the age of sixteen. When it comes to injuries, the most common are to the head, neck, and arm.
