Buick Regal Braking Defect Lawsuits
According to an online safety recall report on kbb.com, Buick has initiated a recall of about 24,000 2018-2020 Regal motor vehicles due to a software issue that can suddenly make the affected vehicles’ brakes less effective. General Motors has already halted all sales of the recalled vehicles at all Buick dealerships. General Motors will hold the unsold used or new models until the defects are repaired. General Motors will notify owners with recalled Buick Regal vehicles about the recall.
General Motors stated that they are not aware of any accidents, injuries, or deaths related to the issue. General Motors said that the issue was discovered during internal testing.
The braking system defect involves the vehicle’s backup brake boost system. Buick Regals use a vacuum-power brake assist that converts light brake pedal pressure into heavier brake pressure. Should the braking system fail, the vehicle’s hydraulic brake boost is designed to back up the system and provide that same assistance. However, Buick told federal regulators that a software error could prevent both systems from functioning properly.
