Mustang recall

NORTH AMERICA – June 1, 2020 – According to an online news report provided by WXYZ.com, the Ford Motor Company has announced two new, urgent safety recall affecting 2016-17 Ford Transit Connect and certain 2020 Ford Mustangs. The vehicles were sold in the United States and Canada. Both recalls could result in serious injuries or deaths to the occupants traveling in either one of the recalled motor vehicles.

The Ford Motor Company announced that its 2016-17 Ford Transit Connect vehicles that were manufactured at Valencia Assembly Plant from July 17-31, 2016, have a dangerous seatbelt defect. The recall affected both the driver and/or front passenger seat belt pre-tensioners. The seat belt pre-tensioner defects may increase the risk of severe injuries to the passengers seated in the front of the vehicle. This defect may cause the seat belt pre-tensioners to “fail to deploy” during an accident. Seat belt pre-tensioners are activated during an accident. As the seat belt pre-tensioners activate, they slow the centrifugal forces that are pushing the passenger to the front of the car at dangerous, injury-causing velocity. If a seat belt pre-tensioner fails, the passenger may experience severe, blunt-force injuries. There are over 1,600 2016-17 Ford Transit Connect vehicles in the United States and another 131 in Canada that are affected by this recall. These vehicles were manufactured at Valencia Assembly Plant from July 17-31, 2016. Ford dealerships will inspect the front passenger and driver’s side seat belt assemblies, and replace any seat belt assemblies that were built during the recall date range. The recall reference number is 20S25.

Ford has also issued a safety recall for 2020 Mustangs that are also equipped with a forward-looking camera and were manufactured at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant from February 10, 2020, to February 11, 2020. The affected Mustangs have a misaligned forward-looking camera. The misaligned forward-looking camera may not operate properly, and as a result, safety systems such as the driver alert, pre-collision assist, lane-keeping system, adaptive cruise control, and auto high-beam control may fail. Failure of these safety systems may lead to serious accidents with injuries or fatalities. Ford Motor Company has stated that there are 24 2020 Ford Mustangs with this potential defect in the United States and one 2020 Ford Mustang located in Canada. Ford dealerships will inspect the vehicles for the defect, and they will reconfigure the camera if necessary. The recall reference number is 20S26.
