According to a recall notice on autoevolution.com, Mercedes-Benz discovered a defect affecting certain GLC 350e vehicles. The issue involved a dangerous loss of power issue, and the problem was first discovered nearly two years ago. Following the first complaint back in September of 2020, the company has received several additional power loss complaints. The German auto manufacturer executed a production quality gate to examine the automatic transmission wiring harness installation to stop the manufacturing issues.
Unfortunately, the defect has been expanded to its 253-series GLC and W213 E-Class manufactured from January 2021 through March 2021. The reported failures affecting the two different platforms have provoked additional investigations, and Mercedes-Benz has informed the wire harness supplier and has asked the supplier to analyze the defect. Mercedes-Benz confirmed that it corrected the wiring harness installation during the manufacturing process back in April 2021. Mercedes-Benz is continuing to investigate the cause.
Mercedes-Benz dealerships were instructed to inspect and replace the wiring harness at no cost to affected owners. Those affected by the recall should be notified by mail by September 9. 1,168 GLC 350e vehicles have been recalled in connection with the defect. 2020 models made between May 20, 2019, and May 27, 2020, have been recalled.
