Tesla Full Self-Driving Accidents
According to a news report posted by Rueters.com, Tesla has announced another recall that affects approximately 54,000 motor vehicles. The recall states that certain Tesla motor vehicles can disobey stop signs posing a serious crash risk. The recall affects Tesla vehicles that have Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Beta) software. According to the recall announcement, some models do not come to a complete stop at certain intersections, posing an accident risk.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that the recall affects certain 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2022 Model Y, and 2016-2022 Model S and Model X motor vehicles. The NHTSA also reported that Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Beta) software might allow the recalled vehicles to drive through all-way stop intersections without first coming to a complete stop.
According to the NHTSA, Tesla will conduct an over-the-air software update to disable the “rolling stop” functionality. The NHTSA also stated that the agency “maintains regular discussions with all manufacturers to discuss potential safety concerns of these types of systems.”
NHTSA also cited federal law that prohibits manufacturers from selling motor vehicles with defects that pose unreasonable safety risks, including unsafe, intentional design features.
Tesla reports that it has been testing its improved version of the car manufacturer’s automated driving software on public roadways. According to Tesla and the NHTSA, these features do not make cars self-driving.
Tesla also reported that it did not know of any crashes, warranty claims, injuries, or fatalities connected to this recall.
