BROOKLYN, N.Y. — New York Police Department accident investigators charged a 22-year-old mother with a slew of criminal offenses including vehicular manslaughter, speeding, and aggravated drunk driving after running down a food delivery person on an electric bicycle. The woman crashed into the e-bike rider and then plowed into a building all with her four-year-old son in the car with her according to the New York Post. The fatal collision occurred on Sunday, June 9, 2019, around 10:35 p.m., according to the New York Daily News. Police said they located the accident scene on Avenue D within a short distance from East 105thStreet in the Canarsie section of Brooklyn.

NYPD investigators reported that the 22-year-old woman driving a white 2007 Infiniti G35 sedan killed an Uber Eats delivery person while driving drunk Sunday. The officers’ preliminary investigation shows that the delivery man, who was a 29-year-old political asylee from Bangladesh, rode an Arrow 10 electric bike on the north side of Avenue D when the 22-year-old woman driving somehow lost control over her car as she was traveling easterly on Avenue D. She crossed the road and plowed into the man on his e-bike. The victim had just made a food delivery. The car continued across the road, leaped over the curb on the north side of the street, and smashed into a building.

Police say that the impact with the car tossed the bike rider into the air and then crashing down to the pavement. Rescuers found the mortally wounded man in the road. Police said that the man suffered massive head and physical trauma. EMS transported the man to Brookdale Hospital, where trauma physicians desperately tried to save the man but could not. EMS also transported the allegedly intoxicated driver and her child to Kings County Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The woman went before a Brooklyn Criminal Court judge on Monday after her arrest. She faces numerous charges in conjunction with the incident.
