Tragic fatal bicycle accident
According to the nydailynews.com and other news sources, a dedicated nurse from Brooklyn was tragically killed in a morning collision with a motorcycle as she was biking home after her overnight shift work at a local hospital. The bicycle accident occurred in Sunset Park at approximately 7:30 in the morning. According to eyewitnesses, the woman was thrown violently from her bicycle in the fatal cycling accident. The woman was rushed to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, the very same hospital she worked, and she was later pronounced dead.
The nurse bicyclist is an immigrant from South Korean. According to the police, she was moving eastbound along 56th Street when she was hit by a 29-year-old motorcyclist who was traveling northbound on Third Avenue.
One of her NYU Langone nurse colleagues saw the accident wreckage, and she stopped to render medical assistance. She noticed her friend and colleague on the ground, and she attempted to resuscitate the woman who may have already passed away. According to the nurse, “We ran to check to see if she had a pulse, and when she didn’t, we started chest compressions.”
According to another colleague of the decedent, “She took this job to help more underserved areas.” The decedent was known for being an amazing woman who worked very hard and was a very giving person.
The motorcyclist was heading to a motorcycle rally to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month at the time of the accident. The motorcyclist was traveling to the Foreva in Racing Mode club headquarters to assist with the annual ride for a charity ride that travels from Brooklyn to Manhattan. The motorcyclist is listed as in critical condition but is in stable condition, according to police reports. At this time, no criminal charges have been filed in the deadly collision.
The bicyclist was not identified by law enforcement. The bicyclist had just begun a new life with her boyfriend by moving into a new apartment, according to one of her friends. According to the bicyclist’s friend, the nurse who lost her life was working on the frontlines of COVID when the pandemic began.
