‘Anencephaly’, which occurs in 1 in 10,000 births, is one of the most common neural tube defects. It occurs early in fetal development, when the upper part of the neural tube fails to close. The condition is marked by:
‘Anencephaly’ is often discovered before birth, forcing parents to make difficult decisions. When a child is born with Anencephaly, death follows within a matter of hours or days.
