BAY RIDGE, NY- Brooklynreporter.com stated on Tuesday that the child hit by a car in Bay Ridge on Sunday, April 29, 2018, is still hospitalized, but is doing better, and reportedly in stable condition. The boy, Jobe Kan, was hit by a 2015 Nissan SUV on 84thStreet.
Witnesses say that the boy went to cross the street in the middle of the block when he was hit. According to Jobe’s father, Reggie, the boy has undergone surgery and is scheduled for further procedures. One of the surgical procedures was of the boy’s jaw, which suffered fractures.
Jobe also had a fracture on his head. While the child is doing somewhat better, Reggie stated that the family is still concerned and scared for his son. He said that Jobe will be unable to eat his birthday cake when he turns 11 on May 17.
Immediately following the accident, Jobe’s friend sought help from his mother, Angela Correa. Correa called 911. Correa has written about the incident on the local Bay Ridge Facebook page stating that the whole situation was an accident and that the driver of the Nissan was “devastated.” She said she had been contacted by many people who wanted to know if they could do anything to help the family, and so she set up a GoFundMe page so that people could help the family. She said that Jobe will need more surgeries and other medical attention and faces a long recovery process.
New York City has made efforts to reduce the number of pedestrian fatalities within the city. The initiative has led to fewer pedestrian fatalities, which is an impressive feat in a country where overall traffic-related fatalities have been increasing.
