According to a news report posted on wionews.com, recent government accident data shows that Tesla has informed motor vehicle safety regulators with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) about two additional fatal Tesla Model 3 crashes. The report states that the incidents involve Tesla’s advanced driver assistance system. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recently released all advanced driver assistance system crash data provided by auto manufacturers. Automakers are required by federal law to provide this driver assistance system crash data to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration annually.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that the agency reviewed these Tesla Model 3 accidents and is in the process of conducting proper follow-ups with Tesla. According to the NHTSA, the agency also uses many data sources in its enforcement procedures. Back in June, the NHTSA requested that Tesla notify the agency of advanced driver assistance systems crashes and accidents involving vehicles that are equipped with automated driving systems and tested on public roads. The NHTSA also stated that it utilizes the crash data submitted by automakers as part of its accident investigations, especially all fatal accidents reported since July 2021 that are connected with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems.
