A Man Was Killed In A Single-Car Accident. One man was killed and two others were critically injured in a single-car accident in Deer Park, New York, Suffolk County police say.
The accident occurred about 4:30 a.m. Monday on Straight Path, south of Sagamore Lane, according to police. A physician assistant from the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office pronounced Hamzah Abdul-Hakim dead at the scene, Newsday reports. Abdul-Hakim, 28, was in a 2003 Infiniti traveling south on Straight Path. The vehicle left the road and crashed into a tree.
Police say Ismail Latif, 28, was ejected from the Infiniti. Abdul-Hakim and Darnell Snell, 31, were trapped in the car and had to be freed by Deer Park Fire Department Rescue. Police say speed was a factor in the crash but weather was not. They have not determined who was driving the Infiniti. Snell was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. Latif was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and is also in critical condition, according to Newsday.
Abdul-Hakim was a married father of three who worked in a window factory on Long Island, Newsday reports. Naimah Hakim, his sister, said he was planning to move to Georgia, where his family was living.
