ISLIP, Long Island, N.Y. — A nineteen-year-old female driver died in a devastating car crash on the Southern State Parkway Saturday morning. According to the Nassau Daily Voice, the fatal accident happened on the eastbound lane of the Southern State Parkway near Exit 41A, which is the exit for the northbound ramp leading to the Sagtikos Parkway, in Islip. Reports of the crash came into law enforcement around 3 a.m. The driver made it to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries not long after her arrival. At this time, the investigating officers say that only one car was involved. State Police have not said what might have caused the driver to lose control over the vehicle and go off of the road.
According to the report appearing in the Nassau Daily Voice, the driver of a 2019 Honda Civic lost control over the vehicle while driving in the left-hand lane. State Police investigators say that the Civic was in the left lane, or the high-speed lane, when the car suddenly veered off of the road onto the left shoulder. The car came back across the road and came to rest after slamming into the guardrail on the right side of the road.
Rescuers found the nineteen-year-old female driver suffering from life-threatening injuries when they arrived at the scene of the crash. Emergency crews transported the woman in her late-teens to Southside Hospital. Sadly, she died there.
The Civic carried four passengers at the time of the crash. All of them were seriously hurt in the car accident. Rescue crews transported all four passengers to Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment. Although the injuries are suspected to be serious, they were described as non-life-threatening.
The State Police have not completed their investigation. At this time, the only witnesses to the crash were in the Honda Civic. State Police have asked anyone who might possess some information about the incident to come forward and talk to the State Police.
