WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. — Police apprehended a man driving the wrong way on Hutchinson River Parkway and charged him with several crimes, along with a moving violation. The wrong-way driver, a man from the Bronx, hit two cars while motoring in the wrong direction. Three people were hurt in the crash that happened around 9:54 p.m. according to lohud.com. The driver initially fled from the crash scene, but the police eventually tracked him down and placed him in custody. He was released after his arrest and now must appear in court on October 3.
Westchester County police and New Rochelle Police worked together to apprehend a man from the Bronx they say drove against traffic on the Hutchinson River Parkway. The Westchester Police spokesperson said that the wrong-way driver collided with two vehicles before coming to a stop. He was driving northerly in the southbound lanes of the road at the time of the crash, which occurred near the border of New Rochelle and Scarsdale. The wrong-way driver fled into the woods bounding the Hutchinson River Parkway. New Rochelle police captured the man after a K-9 officer handling a bloodhound tracked him down. The investigating officers do not know where the man entered the road heading in the wrong direction.
The man now faces very serious criminal charges. Those charges include driving while impaired by drugs, third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries, and a civil motor vehicle infraction of failing to obey a traffic signal. The man is due in New Rochelle City Court on October 3.
Fortunately, the three people who sustained injuries in the wrong way crashed were expected to survive. Two of the people received transport by the Scarsdale Volunteer ambulance service to White Plains Hospital, and the other person went to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx. The injuries were described as non-life threatening.
