Worker killed in construction accident
FREEPORT, NY- Abc7ny.com writes that a construction accident led to the death of a worker on Long Island. The worker was on Guy Lombardo Avenue and Grant Street in Freeport in the morning earlier this week when he was struck by an 18-wheeler truck that another employee on the site was operating.
The victim was climbing under a truck to retrieve a tool that he had dropped under the vehicle. The man was declared dead at the scene of the incident.
The victim’s family wants to know how this accident could have happened and hopes that understanding the cause of the tragedy could prevent future similar events. The incident is being looked into by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
The accident is one of many tragic work zone deaths. New York State has made efforts to lower the number of work zone injuries and fatalities that happen in and around road construction.
