Louisiana-Pacific/ABT Building TrimBoard Failures

LPTrimBoardTrimBoard, ProTrim and ChoiceTrim products are sold as trim, soffit, fascia, lattice, fencing, handrails, vents, risers, and stringers. These fiberboard trim products are made of a concoction of wood scraps and resins. When these types of trims were first introduced, they were touted as an affordable and revolutionary material that installed quickly, and would last a lifetime.

TrimBoard, ProTrim and ChoiceTrim products have a paper surface that may be smooth or embossed with a texture that looks like cedar. If you are unsure whether TrimBoard, ProTrim or ChoiceTrim products are installed on your home, you should contact the contractor who installed your trim. A defect inherent in the design of TrimBoard, ProTrim and ChoiceTrim products allows the trim to absorb water under normal conditions, leading to swelling, rot and decay. These problems lead to a structural failure, as well as a decrease in the quality of outward appearance. The premature failure of the trim makes the material vulnerable to insect infestation and the presence of mold, fungi and mildew. Often, ABT Building Products Corporation and Louisiana-Pacific Corporation try to blame these problems on faulty installation.

Recently, a number of TrimBoard class action lawsuits have been filed around the country. These lawsuits allege TrimBoard, ProTrim and ChoiceTrim products are not suitable for exterior use because they deteriorate prematurely. Signs that Louisiana-Pacific/ABT Building Products Trim has failed include:

  • Swelling
  • Decaying
  • Rotting
  • Delamination

The premature failure of the trim makes the material vulnerable to insect infestation and the presence of mold, fungi and mildew. These problems lead to a structural failure, as well as a decrease in the quality of outward appearance. In most cases, when Louisiana-Pacific/ABT Building Products TrimBoard fails, it must be removed from a home and the underlying wood should be treated with a fungicide before being replaced.

Excellent law firm. I never had to leave the house. The researchers went to both the hospital and my own home to collect all the required information and followed up on the entire process. Don't make a bad decision by choosing this firm. The solution was convenient and quite fast compared to other nearby experiences. Linda and Jorge were very attentive to the entire process and were very concerned about a prompt resolution.
