Carnival Cruise Lines Sued Over Coronavirus
MIAMI, Fla. — Carnival Cruise Lines faces lawsuits from two sets of plaintiffs claiming the cruise operator and its subsidiaries failed to protect passengers from getting the novel coronavirus. One of the passengers who fell ill and was diagnosed with COVID-19 while onboard died. The man who died was from Texas. Another couple from Missouri is also pursuing legal remedies for contracting COVID-19 while they were on a Princess Cruise Line vessel when they fell ill from COVID-19. Luckily, both are in recovery according to a report from CBS News. Both lawsuits argue that Carnival Cruise Lines knew about the inherent dangers of the novel coronavirus and did nothing to protect its passengers. Both cases are still pending in court.
One of the most recent cases filed by plaintiffs against Carnival Cruise lines involves the wrongful death of a passenger from COVID-19. The man was healthy when he boarded the ship with his wife for a cruise. The man fell sick during the cruise. He later passed away from COVID-19. The lawsuit pleaded on behalf of his estate, and his wife argues that the cruise line failed to protect its passengers. The allegations in the case indicate that the cruise line knew people infected with the novel coronavirus disembarked from the vessel, and a new group was allowed onboard to cruise amongst passengers already exposed to the virus.
Another couple has also filed a lawsuit after getting sick from COVID-19 during a cruise on a Princess Cruise Line vessel. The Missouri couple took the ship to Hawaii, all while the crew knew about the dangers of the novel coronavirus. The crew merely asked passengers to sign a slip of paper indicating that they were healthy instead of implementing stricter COVID-19 screening protocols. The plaintiffs, in that case, are on the mend and continue to recover from their illness.
