PhysiciansCare Brand OTC Drug Recall
According to a safety recall announcement published by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, Acme United Corporation has initiated a new recall concerning its PhysiciansCare Brand over-the-counter drugs due to failing to meet federal “child-resistant packaging requirements. The unsafe child-resistant packaging can cause small children to overdose on over-the-counter drugs accidentally. The Poison Prevention Packaging Act (PPPA) requires the packaging of these types of products to be child-resistant to protect children from opening and consuming the medications which could cause poisonings, injuries, or deaths.
The affected products include PhysiciansCare brand Extra Strength Aspirin, Non-Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Extra Strength Pain Reliever, Multi-Pack, and Medication Station over-the-counter drugs. The recalled over-the-counter drugs contain acetaminophen, ibuprofen, or aspirin. The recalled products are packaged in cardboard boxes in quantities of 50, 100, 250, and 500 tablets per cardboard box. About 165,000 boxes of the medication are being recalled. The recall does not affect the company’s Antacid products.
Consumers are urged to immediately keep the products out of the reach of children and speak with Acme United about the disposal of the recalled products. Acme United is also urging customers to return the recalled products for a full refund. Acme United reported that it is contacting all purchasers directly. The notice states that the recalled products were sold on both FSAstore.com and Amazon.com from February 2014 until June 2021.
