E-Cigarettes more addictive than cigarettes
USA- Vox.com writes that for individuals who wish to quit vaping, the road ahead is basically uncharted. While there is a wealth of literature and information for people who wish to quit smoking cigarettes, the practice of vaping is relatively new, and there is little information for those struggling with this new form of addiction.
Recent studies have indicated that vaping is not the safer alternative to smoking, despite claims to the contrary. The number of deaths linked to vaping is continuing to rise. So far, 26 fatalities have been connected to vaping and the resultant lung diseases.
Many of those impacted by e-cigarettes are young individuals. While vaping devices such as Juuls were initially marketed as a tool to help people stop smoking, in reality, many young people were drawn directly to e-cigarettes when they may never have developed a smoking habit.
Now teens, young people, and parents with children addicted to e-cigarettes are looking at strategies to end nicotine addiction caused by vaping. Many people are turning to information for smokers, but unfortunately, quitting vaping might actually be more challenging than quitting smoking.
The liquid used in e-cigarettes has highly concentrated levels of nicotine. One pod of vaping liquid contains the same amount of nicotine as a pack of cigarettes, but a chronic vaper may go through that pod in just a few hours. The nicotine in an e-cigarette also goes down more smoothly than that of a cigarette, meaning that people who vape may not experience irritation in their throat and lungs the way a person who smokes cigarettes would.
People who vape have an easier time doing so in public because e-cigarettes do not emit the same odor that traditional cigarettes do. Vaping is, therefore, less offensive to others.
For those who wish to quit vaping, the core principals will likely remain the same, including changing habits and behaviors to avoid things that trigger the desire to vape, getting support from friends and family, and using nicotine replacement therapy such as gum or patches.
