ALA Launches Anti-Vaping Campaign

CHICAGO, Ill. — The American Lung Association issued a statement through its National President and Chief Executive Officer about the potential horrors of consuming vaping products or using e-cigarettes. The CEO discussed in great detail in his statement the hazards vaping conceals and the potential for irreversible lung damage as a result. The American Lung Association’s CEO appealed to individuals along with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, along with state and local health departments and stakeholders to publicize the dangers inherent in e-cigarette consumption. To date, no one cause may be attributed to the eight fatalities and 530 respiratory illnesses caused by vaping.

The stated mission of the American Lung Association is to educate people about the dangers of tobacco use as well as e-cigarette use. He stated that no person should be consuming vape products, e-cigarettes, or smoking tobacco products as well, especially now considering the number of illnesses and deaths linked to vaping. He said that vaping products contain unhealthy, damaging, and potentially deadly carcinogens, heavy metals, propylene glycol, and vegetable glycerin. These chemicals are unhealthy for an adult. The potential damage these chemicals can inflict on developing lungs might be irreversible. According to the statement issued by the American Lung Association, the U.S. Surgeon General claims that young people are so highly vulnerable to massive respiratory damage from vaping that the outbreak of illness has reached an epidemic.

The American Lung Association’s CEO called upon the FDA to increase its regulation on e-cigarettes and work to remove black market products from the marketplace. Additionally, the CEO exhorted the FDA to ban flavored vaping products because of their allure to children.
