Mint Flavored Juul Pods No Longer For Sale

USA- Cnbc.com writes that e-cigarette company, Juul, just halted all sales of the company’s mint-flavored pods. For the market leader in e-cigarettes, the mint flavor was the best seller accounting for around 70 percent of sales in the United States. The company announced the move last Thursday possibly in anticipation of the Trump administration’s expected policy change that will likely ban the popular flavor.

Two recent studies link Juul to the massive rise in teen vaping across the country. More than 50 percent of teenagers who use e-cigarettes use Juul products, and the most common flavor for high school students is mint. The company says that the decision to remove the mint flavor from their line is in response to the studies.

In a public statement, Juul’s CEO reported that the results of the studies were not acceptable and that the company would be working with the Attorney General and U.S. regulators to combat teen vaping and to earn the public’s trust.

The only flavors available to the U.S. market are now Virginia tobacco, classic tobacco, and menthol. In response to mounting pressure from the Food and Drug Administration, Juul already suspended the sale of other popular flavors such as mango, fruit, crème, and cucumber.

The company’s decision to suspend the sale of its popular flavor pods is a considerable departure from its stance in the past. Previously, Juul argued that the flavored pods were helping adults quit smoking traditional cigarettes.

The Trump administration has indicated it will likely ban flavored e-cigarettes in the upcoming days or weeks. Similar bans are being considered at the state and local level. Some retail shops are choosing to discontinue sales of the products altogether.
