Seven vehicle crash

SARASOTA, Fla. — Three people died in a disastrous seven-vehicle pileup on I-75 near Exit 210 for Fruitville Road in Sarasota. The crash forced law enforcement authorities to close I-75 northbound for nearly ten hours as first responders made rescue attempts, police investigated the scene, and crews cleared away wreckage. According to a report appearing in mysuncoast.com, the crash happened around 7:30 a.m. Law enforcement investigators know that seven vehicles were involved in the crash. However, they have yet to determine why the accident occurred. Investigators are still analyzing the evidence to conclude, if possible, about the cause of the deadly crash.

The investigating troopers have listed the types of vehicles and ages of the people involved in the crash. Troopers assigned numbers to cars for ease of identification. Troopers said vehicle 1, a Ford Mustang,  was operated by a 55-year-old woman from Venice, Fla. She is in Sarasota Memorial Hospital and listed in serious condition. Troopers call vehicle number 2 a 2006 Mack Cement Mixer operated by a 50-year-old man from Sarasota. The cement mixer driver did not survive the crash. Vehicle 3 is a 2005 Toyota Corolla operated by a 57-year-old woman. She was hurt in the crash. The operator of vehicle 4 died in the crash. The 24-year-old male from Sarasota was driving a Dodge Durango. Troopers identified vehicle 5 as a 2001 Chevy pickup truck driven by a 53-year-old man from Cape Coral. He was rushed to Sarasota Memorial Hospital and is in serious condition. Troopers said that the 56-year-old man driving a 2018 Dodge 2500 died in the crash. Finally, a 21-year-old woman driving a 2019 Chevy 4500, identified as vehicle 7, was not hurt.

Florida Highway Patrol accident investigators have asked people to come forward with information about the crash to help them piece the evidence together.
