Pedestrian hit and run

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Troopers from the Florida Highway Patrol have sought the public’s assistance with catching a fleeing driver who ran from the scene of a pedestrian accident that seriously injured a woman. The injured pedestrian, a 58-year-old woman from Fort Myers, is hospitalized with severe injuries. The event occurred around 8:15 p.m. at Wednesday, March 6, 2019, on Commerce Lakes Drive according to Fox4now.com.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers did not describe the car that fled the scene of the pedestrian accident. Troopers did, however, give a brief description of what they believe transpired. According to Fox4now.com, FHP troopers said that the pedestrian hit-and-run victim was walking in a northerly direction on Commerce Lakes Drive in the area of the Fort Myers Brewing company. The Google map of the area provided by Fox4now.com indicates that the location of the collision was diagonal across the road from Summit Church-Gateway Campus. Troopers said that the woman was walking in front of two cars when a third car, determined to be the suspect vehicle, overtook the other two cars and hit the pedestrian. The suspect car immediately sped away.

Emergency medical responders took the 58-year-old pedestrian to Gulf Coast Memorial Hospital. The hospital listed the victim in serious condition. The hospital did not give reporters a prognosis for the victim nor did they provide any additional information about her injuries.

Anyone having any information about this incident that could help investigators determine who the hit-and-run driver might be is encouraged to call the Florida Highway Patrol or Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers and tell police what they know about the incident. The investigating officers did not indicate whether any of the nearby businesses had surveillance video that might assist with their inquiry. Furthermore, the investigators did not disclose whether they possess any forensic evidence such as broken glass, broken car parts, or information provided by witnesses which could help the troopers solve this case.
