BRADENTON, Fla. — Florida Highway Patrol announced that investigators apprehended a man for allegedly hitting a car and fleeing the scene of the crash according to WFLA.com. The crash was highly publicized. A surveillance video near the location of the crash showed one car striking another, and that second car flipping over numerous times at a high rate of speed. A 19-year-old Florida man was behind the wheel of the vehicle that rolled over. He is listed as in serious condition with traumatic brain injuries in a Florida hospital.
Florida Highway Patrol investigators stated that they arrested and charged a 24-year-old man from Bradenton, FL with two felonies. The first felony charge is for leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident after causing serious bodily injury, and the other felony charge is for driving without a license and causing serious injuries. Surveillance video which captured the scary crash shows the 24-year-old Bradenton man hit the back of the Audi driven by the 19-year-old. The Audi jumps over a curb and gets sideways. The Audi then violently and rapidly rolls over several times, coming to rest on the deck of a hotel pool situated along Route 41 in Bradenton. The investigators said that it appeared to them the driver of a mini-van, whom they suspect to be the 24-year-old allegedly driving without a license, attempted to turn into a gas station parking lot when his vehicle clipped the Audi. The man then drove away from the scene.
The 19-year-old is lucky to be alive. He remains in critical condition in the Sarasota Memorial Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit. Investigators say the violence of the crash threw him from his vehicle. He is suffering from severe head injuries, and his family expects him to be hospitalized for a significant period of time. Police say the 24-year-old man posted a $35,000.00 bond. There was no word on his next court date. The driver continues to enjoy the presumption of innocence.
