Palm Beach County, Fla.– (Carscoops) According to a news report from the Carscoops website, the same dashcam footage that showed that a man was not at fault in an accident also led to his arrest. Dashcams are useful in providing information about what happens during a crash, and can sometimes even give enough information that the issue of fault can be decided.
Unfortunately, Xavier Moran just found out that dashcam footage can also get you arrested, depending on what you have been doing. After Moran got in an accident, he permitted police officers to view the footage on his dashcam, which he believed would show them that the other driver caused the crash. The footage did give officers enough information to conclude that it was the other driver, not Moran, who is at fault for the accident.
There was additional footage on Moran’s dashcam besides the car crash, such as a clip that shows Xavier Moran removing a baseball bat from his car and handing it to someone. The other person then used the baseball bat to break a glass door for Moran so he could rob a beauty store. After police saw that part of Moran’s dashcam footage, they arrested him and charged him with burglary and possession of burglary tools. If Xavier Moran gets convicted on the charges that he is facing, he could spend a significant amount of time in jail.
Drivers should be aware that dashcams, whether they are your own or someone else’s, can give police information that can lead to your arrest or to getting found at fault for an accident. For that reason, drivers must drive as carefully as they can and avoid getting involved in crimes.
