Side-impact car accidents are the second most fatal type of car accident. There are several ways that side-impact collisions commonly occur. For example, a driver who fails to yield might hit another car. Failing to stop at a red light or a stop sign is another common cause of side-impact crashes. Drivers that are distracted by using their phones or texting sometimes hit the side of another vehicle with their car. An equipment failure like a blown tire can cause a vehicle to swerve from its lane and into the lane where another vehicle is traveling, thus colliding with the other vehicle. Side-impact crashes also happen frequently when drivers make turns across lanes of traffic. Reckless or aggressive drivers also cause some side-impact collisions. The weather can even be a factor in some side-impact accidents.
