Chemical In Fruits Inhibited The Reproduction Of Flu Viruses. A study published in the Journal of Infectious Diseases found that resveratrol, a chemical found in grapes and other fruits significantly inhibited the reproduction of Flu Viruses in cell cultures and mice. Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is known to help protect the heart and nervous system. It is found in some 72 plant species and also helps prevent cancer.
The researchers at the University of Rome found that resveratrol seems to block host-cell functions that are essential for viral replication. As a result, the team believes resveratrol may be a promising weapon against flu since it would be less likely to induce resistance by the viruses and because it would probably be effective against all types and strains of flu virus. They believe that there findings merit further investigation in light of the growing threat from flu viruses
