Charges Against Former GovGuam Officials. The clock is ticking for the Attorney General’s Office to press charges against former government officials. Attorney General Douglas Moylan says the statute of limitations is running out for any crimes committed by former government officials in the last administration. Moylan says the government has three years from when an official leaves government employment.
To Be Fair to Both the People of Guam.
“The statute of limitations is intended to be fair to both the people of Guam who bring cases before the courts, as well as the defendants,” explained the island’s first elected attorney general. “It gives the AG’s Office a certain amount of time to bring a case. People shouldn’t have to be ready to defend themselves at infint litem, so depending on whether it’s expired or not, our office would have to respect the statute of limitations if they expired on certain individuals.”
Moylan adds some cases are still open while the statute of limitations has already expired for some former government officials.
