Talking Pill Bottles Give Patients Instruction. For many people, the mere act of taking prescription drugs can be quite problematic. Blind patients, those who are unable to read, patients who do not speak the language in which the instructions are written, and those who may be confused by the printed instructions, all face the potential of making a mistake as to which of, how much of, and when to take their medications.
Now, Cardinal Health Inc. of Dublin, Ohio, plans to market medication bottles equipped with recorded messages that give patients dosage instructions.

The bottles will be available to customers by ordering them from Cardinal distribution centers across the country. Doctors and pharmacists will be able to use specially designed microphones to record messages for the bottles.
The bottles are manufactured by MedivoxRx Technologies and are aimed at patients with the types of problems listed above. Cardinal will also distribute the bottles to patients through the 33,000 pharmacies it serves.
A startup kit known as “Rex, The Talking Prescription Bottle System” will come with a microphone and three bottles for about $70. Additional bottles will sell for $5 each.
Currently, a similar product, TalkingRx, is sold online through Walgreen’s and CVS drug stores.
