Injured in a motorcycle accident
BROOKLYN, N.Y. — A motorcycle rider fall off of his motorcycle after he was reportedly startled by a police cruiser with its lights on. The motorcycle rider suffered serious injuries and needed transportation to a local hospital for immediate treatment. The incident took place at about 9:15 a.m. in Bay Bridge according to the Brooklyn Reporter. A spokesperson from the New York Police Department said that the officer was responding to a car accident in the 68thPrecinct.
A 53-year-old man riding a 2013 Harley-Davidson motorcycle fall out of his saddle when he tried to exit the Fourth Avenue Belt Parkway in the Bay Bridge section of Brooklyn. The motorcycle rider told the investigating officers that a New York Police Department police cruiser sped through the “Belt” with the lights and siren on and scared the rider when the cruiser raced by him. The 53-year-old operator fall off of his bike as a result of the close call with the police cruiser.
A man riding with the injured rider described that the police officer drove recklessly. The rider said that the cruiser came up on the side of the motorcycle riders with the lights on. The officer started hitting the horn and then split between the motorcyclists. The injured man went down, and the officer kept going.
A NYPD spokesperson said that the police officers were dispatched to respond to a car accident with severe injuries reported in the 68thPrecinct. However, the friend of the fallen rider stayed close behind the speeding police car to the scene of the crash reported over the air. The friend of the injured rider said that there was no need to drive that way around the Belt. The second rider estimated that ten other police cars were already that the second crash scene and that no emergency existed. The friend of the injured rider said that the man sustained an injury to his arms and collarbone.
