Motorcycle accident in Pinellas Park

PINELLAS PARK, FL – According to Patch.com, a motorcyclist lost his legs after he was seriously injured in a crash with another vehicle. A Florida Highway Patrol officer is being credited with saving the motorcyclist’s life by staunching the flow of blood with tourniquets until paramedics arrived on the scene.

The crash took place on Wednesday, January 17, 2019, at about 10:30 in the evening. The victim, 31-year-old Brandon Niles was thrown from his motorcycle when he struck the rear-end of a Mitsubishi Galant after that vehicle cut him off. The crash took place on Park Boulevard, and fortunately, the trooper witnessed the accident and was there to provide immediate emergency care.

The man driving the Galant, Jah-Vez Tierre Deon Hill-Holmes, 20, fled the scene of the crash, and then later turned himself over to the police. The driver was trying to cross all lanes of traffic to make a left-hand turn close to 40th Street North.

Hill-Holmes was arrested and is being charged “leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, driving on a suspended or revoked license, and felony violation of probation for uttering forged instruments.”

Motorcyclists face many risks that people in cars and other passenger vehicles do not face. Of course, motorcycles do not have exteriors that protect people from impact with other vehicles. But another risk that motorcyclists face is having drivers fail to see them. Motorcycles are not as large as other vehicles and can easily go unnoticed by drivers. Motorcyclists can increase their safety by wearing brightly colored or reflective clothing. Drivers need to remember that they have to share the road with smaller vehicles and that this means being cautious and alert.
